Several years ago, I was on vacation and need a new series to read. On a whim, I picked up Dark Fever by Karen Marie Moning. I was driving from Florida to Boston and had to pick something quick. I was not sure I would like it, but after a few chapters, I was hooked! I made my husband stop a couple times looking for all the books to read on the trip.
Did you read any series that surprised you?

My daughter in law reads all the time, just like my son and I. She got me hooked on PNR and I am working my way through several series. Then I got her hooked on JR Wards-BDB series and everything Christine Feehan, especially The Dark Carpathians series.

I got into the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodman after breaking my clavicle and being forced to take 6 weeks off work. The store didn't have any of the books that I wanted and the clerk suggested the first book. I wasn't overly sure but after reading it that afternoon went back the next day and bought the other 3 books that were out already!!
The first year I went back to visit my parents after having moved from the UK to France I managed to loose the book that I had picked up for the ferry journey (later found in my work locker), so with only a large bank note and 6 hours to waste I went to the duty-free and decided to try the Twilight series (the first film had just come out and the book was on special offer), as it was 2-4-1 I had to find a different book. I ended up getting Storm Warning (The Dresden Files) by Jim Butcher - just because of the artwork on the front really. I was really impressed with the book and now can't get enough...

Ages ago, my mother tried to get me to read the Mrs. Pollifax books, by Dorothy Gillman. Maybe it was because Mom was recommending them, and what young teen wants to read the books MOM likes? Maybe it was that the series just didn't sound that good to me at the time, but I didn't pick them up until many years later. I'll give Mom credit, she didn't say "I told you so!" when I called to tell her how much I was enjoying the books she'd told me about all those years ago :-)

Just finished the Lynsay Sands "the gift" it's Teddy Brunswick and Katricia Argeneau's story.
It's short but very good. The latest in the Argeneau Vampire series. I Love this series.

I was most surprised about falling in love with the whole Percy Jackson series. I am now hooked on anything relating to 'Gods' within books.

DelorisPea: I completely agree. After seeing the movie I had no hopes for the books, but now I read anything Rick Riordan and godlike.
A friend in highschool told me to read Jemiah Jefferson's series (wounds, fiend, etc.). I've typically hated vampire literature. It's always the same when you get to the root of the novel. But I loved this series after finally reading it. It is very Anne Rice, but in my opinion better.

Birthmarked trilogy is the best book series I've read since Hunger Games!!! I love Dystopian novels with a good romance story. I finished Prized & Tortured. Can't wait for Promised to come out. When I started reading it I had no idea there was going to be a love story, awesome!

I was surprised to find that I liked The Hunger Games so much. I don't read much YA but once I read the first one I was hooked. I ran out and picked up the other two the day I finished the first one.

I just finished the first book in the sevenwaters series by Juliet Marillier "Daughter of the Forest" and it is fantastic! And I had already started a series on Egypt by Pauline Gedge "Hippopotamus Marsh" - this was a really wonderful book also. I normally am not this exited about two series and reading them at the same time. But, it happens when you're impatient like I am and can't wait for the next books to come in from the library before picking something else up.

While on vacation in Traverse City, stopped in a book store. Had a really poor SF/Fantasy section but I was desperate for SOMETH:ING to read. Grabbed a YA, "The Blue Girl" by Charles deLInt. Really enjoyed the book, so other deLInt books. Didn't love them so much.
